🌿 Walk and Talk Therapy: A Natural Shift in Counselling 🌿

The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked an increased awareness of the benefits of nature and exercise on mental health. Walk and talk counselling, an outdoor approach combining movement and therapy, has gained traction as a viable alternative to traditional indoor sessions. A recent study explored how clients experience walk and talk therapy in a natural environment.

Key findings:

  • Positive overall experience

  • Informality that enhances, not diminishes, the professional relationship

  • Appreciation for nature, yet at times, unnoticed

  • Flexibility in timing and therapeutic process

Although the sample size was small, the study suggests walk and talk therapy is particularly helpful for clients who wouldn’t consider indoor counselling. As practitioners, we should consider client preferences, safety, and relational dynamics when implementing outdoor therapy.

Further research is essential to develop clearer guidelines and training for this evolving practice.
